Dr. Michael Stuart - Team Doctor

Bio

Dr. Michael Stuart, who is the the chief medical officer for USA Hockey, is serving as the team physician for Team USA at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. 

Most recently, Stuart worked as the team physician for the U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

He was also the team physician for the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team that captured the silver medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Additionally, Stuart made an appearance with the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway.

Stuart also served as team physician for the 2013 and 2000 U.S. Men’s National Teams in the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championships held in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden, and St. Petersburg, Russia, respectively.

Stuart served in the same capacity for the 2004 and 2003 U.S. National Junior Teams at the IIHF World Junior Championships held in Helsinki and Hameenlinna, Finland and Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.

He performed the same duty for the 2001 and 2002 U.S. Men’s National Under-18 Teams. 

He is also a member of the IIHF Medical Committee.

Stuart is professor and vice-chairman of Orthopedic Surgery and co-director of Sports Medicine Center at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After receiving his medical training at Rush University in Chicago, Stuart completed his residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, before taking a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada.

Stuart specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy and knee surgery and holds certifications from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine.

Stuart and his wife, Nacy, reside in Rochester, Minnesota. The couple has four children, all of whom have excelled in the game of hockey. Their sons, Mike, Mark and Colin, have all played in the NHL. The Stuart's daughter, Cristin, played NCAA Division I Hockey.
